A hand-stitched thobe rarely stops being wearable — it simply stops being worn. When a piece has finished its season with you, Kanz will take it back in exchange for store credit through our thobe buy-back, or keep its tatreez alive in another form through repurposing. Each is arranged by conversation, piece by piece.

This is a hand-embroidered Palestinian thoub (thawb), made by hand using traditional tatreez (Palestinian cross-stitch embroidery). Worked on rich velvet, the luxurious ground long favored for festive and bridal pieces. It is . The embroidery carries the rose and the flowerpot, motifs of love, hospitality, and the cultivated home. It also features stalks of wheat and the tall palm, motifs of sustenance and of the land itself. Each piece is accented with manajel zigzag bands, the connective borders that frame the panels. Bedouin embroidery of the Negev favors indigo grounds and amuletic cross-stitch motifs, with red signaling a married woman and blue a widow in older traditions.. Care: hand wash or dry clean only. All sales are final. Custom orders may be changed within 48 hours and cancelled within 24 hours of ordering.

Cared for thoughtfully, a handcrafted piece is meant to last generations. A few essentials for this one:
Velvet
Dry clean only — never iron velvet directly; steam it from a short distance and let the pile hang free to recover.
Mind the embroidery
Hand embroidery catches easily — keep the stitched panels clear of rings, watches, and hook-and-loop fastenings when dressing.
Store with care
Fold along the existing creases or use a padded hanger, and keep the piece away from direct sun and damp.
