This is a hand-embroidered Palestinian thoub (thawb), made by hand using traditional tatreez (Palestinian cross-stitch embroidery). Worked on ettameen, the even-weave cotton ground cloth that gives counted cross-stitch tatreez its crisp, regular grid. It is . The embroidery carries the cypress, or saru, a symbol of endurance, mourning, and the evergreen continuity of life. It also features the eight-pointed star, an ancient motif of guidance, balance, and good fortune. Each piece is worked in the fallahi cross-stitch (tatreez) that forms the backbone of Palestinian village embroidery, each stitch counted by hand. From the hills north of Jerusalem, Ramallah embroidery is celebrated for its deep red cross-stitch on white linen and bold geometric panels, historically among the most documented of Palestinian village styles.. This is a one-of-a-kind piece; once it is sold it will not be repeated. Care: hand wash or dry clean only. All sales are final.
